I was assigned to create a video under 20 seconds in length. While initially feeling limited by the setting of my college town, this constraint became an opportunity to explore its understated charm. By capturing everyday scenes—neighborhood strolls, quiet corners of campus, shifting skies above my workplace, and greenery around my apartment—I wove elements of my daily life into a visual narrative that romanticizes small-town living.
Embracing the beauty in the seemingly mundane, I used minimal equipment to evoke a vintage, grainy, and imperfect aesthetic. Rather than relying on elaborate transitions, I focused on the natural outdoor color palette and carefully timed clips to guide the viewer’s attention. Similarly, the song chosen, Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, contrasts the actual meaning of friendship to a relationship one has with their environment.
